Designed to be integrative, naturopathic medicine works in synergy with conventional medicine, complementing rather than opposing it.

  • Yes! Naturopathic care is designed to integrate seamlessly with your existing healthcare team. Optimal health is achieved when both conventional and naturopathic medicine work together. When a condition is being actively treated by a medical doctor, special attention is given to assure safety and assess for potential medication interactions of any naturopathic treatments added to your care plan.

  • Naturopathic doctors must complete a Bachelor’s degree from an accepted university, 4 year Doctoral Degree in Naturopathy from an Accredited Naturopathic Medical School (there is only one accredited school in Canada), as well as successful completion extensive board exams through the College of Naturopaths of Ontario prior to becoming a registered Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario.

     

    Naturopathic Medical School involves a rigorous 4-year curriculum that provides more than 3,000 hours of classroom training and minimum of 1200 hours of clinical experience.

     

    Curriculum snapshot:

    Biomedical sciences: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology, and clinical diagnosis.

    Natural therapeutics: clinical nutrition, lifestyle management, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, physical medicine, and counselling

    4th year clinical internship: in the final year of schooling, naturopathic medical students provide direct patient with the supervision of licensed naturopathic doctors.

  • Yes!

    To meet ND standard of prescribing in Ontario:

    Once registered, naturopathic doctors have the option to further their education in prescribing and pharmaceutical therapeutics. A board examination must be successfully completed to meet the ND standard of prescribing in Ontario.

    To meet the standard of practice for intravenous infusion therapy (IVIT) in Ontario:

    NDs must meet the ND standard of prescribing, complete a CONO approved course in IVIT and successfully pass the IVIT board examination.

  • Naturopathic Medicine can be covered by extended insurance plans. Dr. Maloney offers direct billing for most extended healthcare benefit plans. However, naturopathic care cannot be billed through OHIP.
